ENTREVISTA DE ART SULLIVAN

Mês passado, nós tínhamos lhe proposto uma entrevista rio de Art Sullivan. Celebrar os 40 anos dele de carreira, no começo de janeiro (15 de dezembro em digital) tirará uma compilação nova de seus tubos maiores, enfeitado com um remescle de "Tout est dans tout" e da versão longa de "Fan, fan, fan". Art nos recebeu a falar conosco sobre este álbum sobre evento novamente...

IdolesMag: Era importante você marcar a ocasião de seus 40 anos de carreira com um álbum?

Art Sullivan: Para um artista, é sempre importante. Se é celebrar 40 anos, 20 anos, 10 anos, ou até mesmo um ano. Quando eu começar a cantar, eu sempre disse a mim que o ano seguinte que seria terminado. E faz 40 anos desde que eu sempre estou em algum lugar... E depois de 40 anos que uma compilação se salienta fora (eu levei um disto para Portugal, mas ela não está disponível na França), para mim isso permanece um mistério...

Em o que compore ela esta compilação?

Os sucessos anteriores dos anos setenta. Também há um título em versão longa, "Fan, fan, fan", como também uma canção no português e um título bastante pequeno conhecido pelo público, eu penso. É uma pergunta de "Je te aime".

Sobre o que fala ela sobre esta canção?

É uma canção muito muito atraente, mas um pouco especial. Em francês, não dizemos nós "Je te aime". Mas eu tinha pensado nesta forma pensando no amor. O amor extremamente unido o ódio em algum lugar. O amor enlata queda muito rápida em cima de. E nós dizemos "Je te hais". Esta canção fala sobre o fato que eu sempre estou na posição de "Je te aime", mas eu o gosto tanto que eu estou lá quase dentro "Je te hais". Era meu minuto de filosofia (rugidos de risada)

Nós também achamos o remescle em 2010 de "Tout est dans tout".

Completamente. É um de grandes surpresas desta compilação! É um menino jovem de Paris, Alexx que tinha me perguntado se ele pudesse ter as faixas desta canção com as vozes separar. Ele quis remesclar o título. Eu estava muito pasmo que ele escolhe esta canção, além disso. É a recente canção que não é muito conhecido do público geral. Eu teria muito mais entendido que ele me pede as faixas de "Petite fille aux yeux bleus" onde uma canção do tempon que teve muito mais sucesso. Mas ele achou esta canção e o texto tão bonito dele que foi o que ele quis remesclar. Eu me disse " por que não? " Ele teve o ar tão dinâmico, tipo muito enérgico e assim cheio de espírito que eu o cruzei faixas. O que arriscamos nós no fundo? Nada! Eu era por outro lado muito honesto com ele. Eu disse a ele que se isso não me agradasse, isso não iria mais distante. Depois de algumas semanas, ele me enviou o que ele tinha feito...

Bem então?

E realmente, eu estava agradavelmente surpreso. É, naturalmente, não meu estilo de música, mas eu estava surpreso com o resultado e com a qualidade de seu remescle!

Também há uma versão de maxi de "Fan, fan, fan"

É a canção que eu registrei pouco antes de eu parasse . A disco chegou e eu tinha registrado esta canção com o coordenador de Boney M em Frankfurt. Nós tínhamos feito um rádio de versão, mais curto, e uma versão longa para as discotecas. Ela saiu em maxi um vinil branco. Era muito atraente durante tempo. E é esta versão que se encontra na compilação.

"Fan, fan ,fan"não é um sócio de canções simbólicas de seu diretório. Isso o agrada a achar no disco?

Eu vou ser muito honesto com você... Não! (Rugidos de risada) Eu sou bastante um cantor romântico. Eu gosto de ter sentimentos em canções. "Fan, fan, fan", eu tirei o dela quando o disco chegou, mas não é a música que eu gosto de escutar.

Para os fãs, por outro lado, a idéia é muito boa a rerelease uma versão de maxi que todo o mundo não tem a ele.

Naturalmente, e é todo o interesse desta compilação que traz algumas raridades. E então, eu sei que o "Fan, fan, fan" é apreciado por muitos de meus fãs, é o caso para dizer isto! E então, esta versão de maxi também tem o interesse para ser bastante raro.

Nós achamos as gravações originais?

Sim. Elas são todas as versões originais. Menos "Ensemble". Eu tinha feito em 2004 para se divertir uma versão "bossa" deste título. Enquanto na versão original, eu canto o título muito alto, nesta versão "bossa", eu canto muito baixo, com um arranjo totalmente diferente. Assim alguém que conhece a canção pode ser surpreendido por esta versão nova. Ele (será pegado de surpresa agradavelmente ou desagradavelmente, além disso... Cada é livre ou não amar esta versão "bossa"! (Risada) Mas eu pedi ao Alexx se é o que se aparece na compilação.

Há concertos planejaram ano que vem?

Alguns concertos são planejados em Portugal, com Hugo. Mas não aqui. Você sabe, eu nunca virei muito, até mesmo nos anos setenta. Eu só comecei em 1976 e eu parei dentro 1978. Assim...

Mas isso o excita todos o mesmo de vez em quando voltar para cima em fase em casa, na França e na Bélgica?

Através de fase, sim. É pequeno como o apetite. Às vezes eu quero isto, às vezes não. Mas o que está freqüentemente triste na fase, é a falta de meios. O disco vai mal, todo o mundo o conhece. Mas a fase não vai de forma que não mais... Muitos espetáculos hoje enganam em faixas, o que é menos engraçado. Porque nós não podemos improvisar nada, nós temos que seguir a faixa. Com músicos, nós podemos fazer o que nós queremos, enquanto em faixas, não é nada de melhor que um karaoke... Assim, se for fazer um espetáculo em faixa, eu sou muito menos pronto!...

O que são seus outros projetos para 2011?

Lá, eu estou muito muito concentrado no álbum novo do Hugo.

Last month, we had proposed you an interminable interview of Art Sullivan. To celebrate his 40 years of career, at the beginning of January (December 15th in digital) will take out a new compilation of its biggest tubes, included a remix of "Tout est dans tout" and of the long version of " Fan Fan Fan ". IdolesMag: Was it important for you to mark the occasion of your 40 years of career with an album?

Art Sullivan: For an artist, it's always important. Whether it's to celebrate 40 years, 20 years, 10 years, or even one year. When I began to sing, I always said to myself that the following year it would be finished. And it has been 40 years since I'm always somewhere... And after 40 years, that a compilation stands out (I took out one to Portugal, but it's not available in France), for me that remains a mystery...

Of what does it compose this compilation?

The former successes of the 70's. There is also a title in long version, "Fan Fan Fan", as well as a song in the Portuguese and a title enough little known by the public, I think. It is a question of "Je te aime".

About what does it speak about this song?

It's one very very attractive song, but a little bit special. In French, we don't say "Je teaime". But I had thought of this form by thinking about the love. The extremely joined love the hatred somewhere. The love can very fast fall over. And we say "Je te hais". This song speaks about the fact that I'm always in the position of "Je te aime", but I love you so much whom I'm there almost in "Je te hais". It was my minute of philosophy (roars of laughter)

We also find the remix on 2010 of "Tout est dans tout".

Completely. It's one of great surprises of this compilation! It's a young boy of Paris, Alexx, that had asked me if he could have the bands of this song with the voices to part. He wanted to remix the title. I was very amazed that he chooses this song, moreover. It's the recent song which isn't very known of the general public. I would have much more understood that he asks me for the bands of " Petite fille aux yeux bleus" or a song of the time which had much more success. But he found this song and its text so beautiful that it was the one that he wanted to remix. I said myself " Why not? " He had the so dynamic air , very go-ahead type and so full of spirit that I crossed him bands. What did we risk at the bottom? Nothing! I was very honest on the other hand with him. I said to him that if that didn't please me, that wouldn't go farther. After some weeks, he sent me what he had made...

Well then?

And indeed, I was pleasantly surprised. It's, naturally, not my musical style, but I was surprised with the result and with the quality of its remix!

There is also a maxi version of "Fan Fan Fan".

It's the song which I recorded a little before I stop. The disco arrived and I had recorded this song with the arranger of Boney M in Frankfurt. We had made a radio's version, shorter, and a long version for the discotheques.It went out on maxi one white vinyl. It was very attractive for time. And it's this version which refinds on the compilation.

"Fan Fan Fan" isn't a part of symbolic songs of your directory. Does that please you to find it on the record?

I'm going to be very honest with you... No! (Roars of laughter) I'm rather a romantic singer. I like having feelings in songs. "Fan Fan Fan", I took out it when the disco arrived, but it isn't the music which I like listening to.

For the fans, on the other hand, the idea is very good to rerelease a maxi version which everybody doesn't have it at home.

Naturally, and it's all the interest of this compilation that brings some rarities. And then, I know that "Fan Fan Fan" is appreciated by many of my fans, it's the case to say it! And then, this maxi version has the interest also to be rather rare.

Do we find the original recordings?

Yes. They are all the original versions. Except "Ensemble". I had made in 2004 to have fun a version "bossa" of this title. While on the original version, I sing the very high title, on this version "bossa", I sing very low, with a totally different arrangement. Thus somebody who knows the song can be surprised by this new version. He will be surprised pleasantly or unpleasantly, moreover... Each is free or not to love this version "bossa"! (Laughter) But I asked Alexx whether it's the one who appears on the compilation.

Are there concerts planned next year?

Some concerts are planned in Portugal, with Hugo. But not here. You know, I have turned never a lot, even in the 70s. I began only in 1976 and I stopped in 1978. Thus...

But that tickles you all the same from time to time to go back up on stage at home, in France and in Belgium?

By phase, yes. It's little as the appetite. Sometimes I want it, sometimes not. But what is often sad in the stage, it's the lack of means. The record goes badly, everybody knows it. But the scene doesn't go so good no more...Many shows today deceive on bands, what is less funny. Because we can improvise nothing, we have to follow the band. With musicians, we can make what we want, while on bands, it's nothing of better than a karaoke... Thus, if it's to make a show on band, I'm much less ready!...

What are your other projects for 2011?

There, I'm very very concentrated on the Hugo's new album.

Art Sullivan nos recebe no escritório dele, em sua casa do subúrbio de Bruxelas. Jacques Verdonck, o produtor dele, também está presente. Durante esta entrevista, nós devolveremos com Art em sua rota . Ele também explicará a nós por que ele deixou a frente da cena ao término dos anos setenta. Hoje, Art Sullivan é uma estrela enorme em Portugal onde enche quartos equivalente para nossos Zéniths... Ele também nos explicará o muito favorito que ele teve para um cantor francês-português jovem. O nome dele é o Hugo, segure, por favor, o primeiro nome dele! Art Sullivan celebrará ano que vem seus 40 anos de carreira, mas também seus 60 anos! Se reunindo com um artista bonito e inteligente ; -)

IdolesMag: você vai celebrar seus 40 anos de carreira ano que vem. Se você por favor, nós vamos fazer novo desenho estes 40 anos em linhas principais antes de falar sobre seus eventos atuais...

Você era o que nós chamamos um bebê-cantor? Art Sullivan: Eu realmente tive a paixão para cantar para 12/13 os anos. Para lhe dar um exemplo, eu compus por este tempo"Petite fille aux yeux bleus". Ela ainda não foi chamada assim, mas eu me lembro embora eu tinha composto a melodia em minha cama. Eu tive um transistor pequeno e eu escutei a música em minha cama debaixo de coberturas... No fundo de mim, soube eu que eu seria um cantor um dia.

Você compôs em um violão ou um piano? Nenhum deles! (risada) dizer a você a verdade, eu não sei ninguém nota de teoria de música. Eu não tenho nenhum grupo de música. Mas a composição, você sabe, no fundo, está na cabeça... Assim, assim que eu tivesse uma melodia em mente, eu o registrei não a perder. E hoje, ainda é como que! Depois, eu dou esta melodia a um amigo que a transcreve a mim em notas musicais. Eu sou um compositor, mas eu não toco um instrumento. Finalmente... sim! Se você desejo que eu lhe toco o "Frère Jacques" em um piano, eu chegarei lá certamente, mas você não deverá pede a mim isto muito mais! (risada)

E em sua família, cantamos nós? De nenhuma maneira. Eu venho da família de aristocratas, como dizemos nós. Assim, para 14/15 os anos, quando eu disser a meus pais que eu quis me tornar um cantor, realmente não era do gosto deles! Na família, era necessário se tornar um solicitador ou um doutor. Mas cantor que você imagina! Exclua minha mãe que era um pouco mais revolucionária talvez. O dela, o desejado dela que eu fiz o que faria minha felicidade. Eu tive nenhum círculo de conhecidos que me predispuseram ir para a música.

O teve os ídolos quando você era infantil? Ai sim! Eu era mesmo um fã de France Gall e o dele "Sacré Charlemagne !" E então, meu real trinco para a música, estava dentro 1965. Eu ouvi uma noite ao rádio "Aline" de Christophe." Lá, eu estava pequeno como um padre que teria ouvido a voz de Deus para vir falar com ele. Escutando esta canção, eu me submergi na música.

Se lembre tempos primeiro quando você cantou, talvez por professionalmente, mas seriamente, nos deixe se dirá. Em 15 anos. Eu participei de pequenos concursos, rádio-gancho,de fancy-fair. Eu cantei "Aline", "Capri, c'est fini", "La plage aux romantiques", coisas gostam isso.

Então, o que acontece? Você sabe, para querer se tornar um cantor e ser um cantor, há quilômetros. Mas, como eu sou fascinado por Christophe, eu fui o ver em 67 ou 68. Como ele não tem nenhum fã-clube, eu o sugestionei subindo dele. Ele concordou. Eu comecei a imprimir uma revista de stencylée que saiu todos os meses assim. No princípio, eu tive 35 sócios. Mas eu persuadi o Christophe que eu tive mais que 2000 disto! (rugidos de risada) não estava por esnobismo, mas como era meu ídolo, eu quis que tudo esteja perfeito e eu quis se ele é "grande!" E eu me lembro muito bem pelo tempo quando Hervé Vilard que também teve um fã-clube estava muito surpreso que aquele Christophe tem tantos sócios! Ele me contatou assim e desejado que eu também levo ao cuidado de seu... Eu tive 18 anos velho pelo tempo , eu estava cheio de energia! Pelo tempo, era Jacques Verdonck [a nota de editor : que estava presente durante nossa entrevista] que era o editor de Hervé Vilard. E um dia, Hervé Vilard que soube que eu gostei de canto e compondo, vem para Bruxelas para registrar um programa de televisao. E ele apresenta a " pessoa jovem pequena " a Jacques. Ele me disse que lhe enviasse um cassete e o que não perderia para o escutar... Como nós sempre dizemos na realidade! Eu lhe enviei assim um cassete e ele chamou me apóie ! No dia 14 (eu sempre me lembrarei disto) de fevereiro, eu cheguei em estúdio. E ao término de ao redor trinta segundos, eles disseram a mim "Parada." Eu disse a mim que era terminado... Mas não, ele disse a mim que ele me assinou durante três anos!

O que isso o fez? Muito sinceramente, em cima do momento, não muito! (risada) Nós não estávamos no estrela-sistema atual, mas eu estava muito satisfeito.

E depois, você deixa para Londres... Sim, 15 dias depois, nós nos vamos para Londres e nós achamos Charles Blackwell, o coordenador de Tom Jones, entre outros. Também é que fez " Love me, please love me" de Polnareff. Nós registramos um modelo. Nós trazemos depois de Londres alguns dias e o modelo é enviado a dois ou três pessoas em Paris. Depois de 24 horas, Carrère telefona dizendo que ele quis me assinar durante 7 anos. E por este tempo eu não tinha tirado de disco contudo. (risada)

Era outro tempo!... Efetivamente (rugido de risada)

Como você escolheu seu pseudônimo? Meu real nome, é Marc Liénard van Linde de Jeugh... Era bastante complicado para impor este nome! Pessoalmente, eu quis ser chamado o "Sebastian", não me pergunte por que! Carrère, ele, tinha me proposto "Art" como primeiro nome. Eu nunca tinha entendido um primeiro nome assim na Europa. Havia Art Garfunkel realmente, mas não era primeiro uma terra comum nome. Pelo tempo, o Gilbert O' Sullivan tinha tirado há pouco um disco. Eu gostei deste nome " Sullivan ". Assim, e assim nasceu "Art Sullivan."...

Neste momento, você tira seu primeiro disco... Completamente. "Ensemble" entrou fora em junho. O título era claviforme em julho e em agosto por RTL. E ao término de agosto, vendas eram catastróficas. Todo o mundo disse isto a mim: com um bater como tínhamos tido nós que era festa muito ruim. Então, em setembro, como se por magia, fosse 10 ou 15 000 vendido discos um dia!

Você o vive como? Tudo chegou rápido assim... Inconscientemente. Lhe dar um exemplo... Alguns meses depois, eu adquiro realezas. Eu tinha vendido todos o mesmo mais de 300 000 discos. Eu sempre me lembrarei, eu era lugar de Brouckère para Bruxelas e eu olhei para uma cadeia bonita em uma vitrina. Eu a achei magnífico. Ela valeu 25 000 francos belgas de tempo ... E está lá que eu entendi que eu os tive em minha conta bancária. Está lá que eu percebi que eu exercitei um trabalho e que eu era liquidado para...

Você sempre viveu na realidade fora do sistema. Completamente.

Tubos são muito depressa unidos. Você teve tempo para continuar compondo? Para falar a verdade, eu tive um trem anteriormente. Eu já tive muitos de canções já compostas e registradas. Quando "Ensemble" saiu , o intitula " Adieu sois heureuse" que sairá depois em um ano já era registrado. Eu vou não ensinar nada você dizendo a você que pelo tempo nós tiramos 45 torres cada 4 ou 5 meses. Assim, nós, em produção, nós tivemos pelo menos anteriormente um ano bom.

Você não teve tempo certamente para registrar muito pelo tempo. Se sim... Você sabe, eu sou alguém bastante discreto. Eu não gostei de mostrar para mim nas discotecas à moda que a "Paris todo" freqüentou... Eu fui para Paris para fazer meu trabalho e assim que fosse terminado, eu voltei a Bruxelas a minha mãe, com meus irmãos e meus cachorros...

Você sempre morou em Bruxelas, então? Sim, sempre. Não nesta casa, mas eu vivi em Woluwe-Saint-Pierre durante 35 anos... Eu nunca morei em Paris. Carrère quis que eu mostre pouco eu, que eu jogo a estrela... Mas, que, isso me interessou de nenhuma maneira.

Nós sempre voltamos lá à mesma coisa...Todo o "resplendor" lateral e estrela-sistema nunca se interessou por você. De nenhuma maneira!

Pelo tempo, vira muito você? Pergunta muito boa... Pelo tempo, vendo eu discos "gostam de bolos quentes." O "Petite fille aux yeux bleus" chegue a 700 000 cópias, "Adieu sois heureuse" em 600 000, "Vivre d'amour" em 600 000 também. Toda vez, eu faço só um programa de televisao ou dois, ao muito mais mais... Eu me apareço pouco na imprensa. Mas discos são muito bem vendidos. E como eu sou um compositor, eu ganho dinheiro muito bom... E assim, eu quis ir. Carrère não era completamente para! (risada) Ele me pede que espere, enquanto achando que fosse muito cedo. Mas como eu tenho bastante renda, eu não cresço à carga. Além, ele tinha me dado um argumento que se defendeu : eu tive dois ou três sucessos, assim, não de qual gosta em uma cena durante 1:30 são. Assim, eu não virei muito tempo. Então, como a pessoa vai junto, eu sentia que eu precisei da cena. Você sabe, eu não tive nenhum contato com qualquer pessoa pelo tempo. Eu continuei freqüentando meus amigos o distrito e minha família, totalmente como adiante. Assim, eu quis fazer recepções oficiais...

Eles lambranças boas são, as primeiras recepções oficiais dele? É os melhores! Está lá que eu entendi meu trabalho. O real trabalho pelo cantor, é estar em cena. Eu também gosto do estúdio, porque nós criamos lá. Mas nós criamos em frente a um microfone. É pequeno como quando nós cantarmos à televisão, nós cantamos em frente a uma camara. Quando nós estivermos em cena, eu não posso explicar isto a você, mas nós sentimos os sentimentos que passam. Elas são duas facetas do trabalho. Eles são complementares.

Em 1978, você põe um freio em sua carreira na França. Por que? Eu não ponho um freio, na realidade eu paro! É o tempo quando a Disco começar a chegar. Nas mídia, havia uma forma de elitismo. Nós ouvimos que " eu o gosto para sempre meu amor ", era quadrado. Atenção, não era o público que disse isto, nós o ouvimos nas esferas das mídia... O mesmo Claude François começou a ser taxado honestamente por. Até mesmo se eu tivesse cantado as canções mais intelectuais, eu tive o cunho" o cantor estúpido "... Eu o sentia. Eu tinha 28 anos, eu disse a mim que eu tive nenhum mais este fogo ou esta paixão para cantar. Eu quis passar na outra coisa. Eu parei assim e nós não ouvimos falar qualquer mais de mim. Você começa ma carreira então no documentário. Por que esta escolha? Eu sempre fui fascinado pelo documentário. Nós estamos em 78/79, a televisão não era o mesmo aquele hoje. Eu fundo que a televisão ia mover. E assim, eu criei um conceito: faça camaras invisíveis com estrelas. Eu soube que que ia valer muito dinheiro, assim, nós visitamos co-produtores. Nós vimos alguns, de qual em Canadá que se apressou para desenvolver a idéia!...

É porque a idéia era boa..Você fez muitos documentários nas famílias reais. Sim, muito. Eu não percebi documentários para França ou Bélgica. Um documentário, é pequeno como uma canção... Uma canção vai valer, por exemplo, 10 000 euro. Mas o que ela só tira na Bélgica onde no mundo inteiro, ela sempre valerá 10 000 euro. Assim, tanto a faça para o número maior das pessoas. É a mesma coisa para um documentário. Como sei eu que até mesmo os republicanos estavam interessados nas famílias reais, eu percebi muitos de documentários neles. Mas eu também percebi relatórios em cidades grandes, em particular um em Sydney, um pouco antes de olimpíadas. Sydney, é uma cidade fabulosa. Quando você percebe que duzentos anos atrás, havia nada...

A música não perdeu a você durante todos estes anos? Para falar a verdade, eu não era tão remoto da música porque sou eu que assinou todos os créditos ou a música de fundo. Eu não cantei, mas eu fiquei em meu universo musical. Eu não fiz mais nenhum desejo para cantar quando eu parei, mas a música ficou minha paixão. Eu deixei de nunca compor. Por que não ter escrito então para os outros? Eu o fiz, mas pouco. Eu escrevi uma canção para Liliane Saint-Pierre, cantor flamengo [a nota de editor: " Als je gaat"] e para Timothy também [a nota de editor: "c'est la vie, c'est joli"]. Você sabe, eu posso admitir isto a você, eu sou uma pessoa preguiçosa grande... Assim, eu componho pouco, só quando é necessário!(risada) Por princípio, nós não comandamos a criação. Eu não posso me dizer " seu, hoje, eu vou compor uma canção ", não...

Em 2006,"Tout est dans tout" beneficiou de um remescle dança. Necessariamente não é o registro no qual nós esperamos por você... (Rugidos de risada) E ele vai ter lá até pior! Ainda era da dança amável... Porque lá, no começo do ano vai sair um remescle de "Tout est dans tout" muito muito remesclado! (risada) Eu estava muito surpreso quando estas pessoas jovens Parisienses me contatarem sobre este projeto. Eu ignorei que eu tive os fãs tão jovem e dinâmico! Eles há pouco me pediram o pista com minha voz. E eles a remesclaram... Eu há pouco a recebi e eu posso dizer a você que é muito bem! Isso muda... Isso move!... É um remescle planejado para as discotecas.

Você gosta deste tipo de remescle? Para falar a verdade, eu não gosto das discotecas! Mas eu admito que o deles remescle é muito bem feito. Eu não seria honesto dizendo a você que é a música que me comovere.

Quando e como a aventura deste álbum nasceu "Tout est dans tout"? Ao término dos anos noventa, chegou o CD. E eu não tive nenhum disco disponível em CD. Ariola veio me achar se perguntar a autorização para tirar um compil de minhas canções anteriores. Eu não pensei que que caminharia, e, eu vou dizer a você a verdade rígida, eu concordei para ter um CD de minhas próprias canções essencialmente... (risada)Eles tiraram assim no princípio a compilação na Bélgica. Nós vendemos 60 000 cópias. Seis meses depois, eles tiraram um volume 2 que menos vendido, quase 30 000 todos o mesmo, mas este aqui conteve muito menos tubos. Mais adiante para esta aventura, Warner France me contatou tirar uma compilação na França. Nós vendemos 180 000 todos o mesmo. E lá, eu percebi isso cheio de pessoas tinha permanecido fiel à memória de minhas canções. Nós igualamos me pedido que me produzisse várias vezes em espetáculo.

Você duvidou isto, que o público tinha permanecido em você fiel? Eu pensei que eu fui esquecido. Realmente. Você sabe, eu tinha parado em 78/79, tinha sido 15 anos desde mais que ninguém ouviu falar de mim... É uma geração! Mas voltar lá aos espetáculos que eu dei... O público veio escutar minhas canções naturalmente e eu percebi que quando eu cantei, eu vi nos olhos como os que era se eles abrem um álbum de fotografia. A canção os re-transpôs nos 16 anos deles/delas ou os 18 anos deles/delas. Eu percebi que foram ligadas canções a recordações. Tudo isso me restabelecido inveja cantar novamente e refazer um disco...

Você retomou"Mourir ou vivre"neste álbum. Por que? Porque é a canção da que eu gosto muito. Como eu há pouco expliquei agora mesmo isto a você, para meus 14 / 15 anos, eu não fiz Rádio-gancho ruim que retoma Hervé Vilard ou Christophe. Eu não quis retomar "Capri, c'est fini", porque a canção é muito semelhante a Hervé. " Mourir ou vivre" também, mas menos. Eu quis retomar esta canção mudando os arranjos isto assim.

Isto a canção é que você gosta profundamente? Ai sim...

Também há a canção de Christophe neste álbum... Sim. "J'ai remarché ". Até mesmo lá, eu não quis retomar uma muita canção conhecida.

Era um modo, diga a mim se eu cometo um erro, dar laçada a volta... Você tinha deixado para Paris para fundar o fã-clube de Christophe e então você o ocupa disso do Hervé Vilard. Então neste álbum, você os retoma ambos... Aqui nós estamos, isso é certo... E a fivela não é enrolada completamente! Porque durante dois anos, eu produzo um artista português jovem quem nós vamos lançar na França ano que vem.

É o Hugo. Completamente. E no álbum, haverá uma reassunção de Christophe "Les marionnettes".

Antes de falar sobre Hugo, eu gostaria de falar alguns sobre este sucesso enorme que você tem em Portugal hoje... Como eu expliquei isto a você, eu estava muito surpreso para ainda ver aquelas tantos pessoas gostadas de minhas canções aqui na Bélgica e na França quando nós tirarmos a compilação. Mas em Portugal, eu tenho ainda também muito sucesso. Eu era uma "estrela" nos anos setenta em cima de lá. Eu cantei em estádios de futebol. Lhe dar um exemplo, quando eu jogar Funchal na ilha de Madeira, eu fiz 100 000 pessoas em 3 noites, enquanto a ilha conta só 300 000 habitantes. Um terço da ilha tinha vindo me veja. Mas em 78 quando eu parar tudo, eu parei por cima lá também. E ao término dos anos noventa, nós rereleased uma compilação em cima de lá e era muito depressa disco dourado.

Como você explica este anexo que o português público o leva? Se havia uma receita ?!...

Você necessariamente não foi prendido previamente a este país. De nenhuma maneira. Você sabe, é pequeno como o amor. Quando nós nos apaixonarmos, nós não sabemos por que. É uma alquimia que acontece e ninguém pode explicar isto.

Você dá muitos concertos em cima de lá. Sim, quando nós jogarmos por cima lá, está em quartos de 7 ou 8000 lugares.

O viva a você bom encher e aloja tão grande em Portugal e não aqui na Bélgica ou na França? Ai sim, muito bem... E então, o conheça, eu tenho menos medo muito jogando em frente a 7 ou 8000 pessoas que em frente a 300. Quando é você em frente a 7000 pessoas, é você em frente a um oceano. Ele não enlata nada chegue a você, exclua quando realmente o canta como uma batata! (risada) Mas quando o canta em frente a 300 pessoas, é muito diferente! Todo o mundo é muito mais reservado.

O cante muito hoje no português. É foneticamente? Eu entendo pouco, naturalmente, mas eu canto foneticamente! Eu também canto em alemão e em espanhol...

Nos deixou voltarmos a Hugo There, como você o descobriu? Nos 2000s, internet ficaram mais democráticos e eu escutei as pessoas que retomam minhas canções em locais de vídeos... Às vezes é bastante ruim, mas isso sempre agrada! (risada) então, um dia um amigo me diz que olhe para um menino jovem português que retomou " Petite demoiselle". Eu olho. Eu não acho isso ruim. Eu olho então para os outros vídeos dele, ele retomou Brel, ferré etc. E lá, eu disse a mim que esta criança teve um talento louco. Eu o contatei então. Ele que vive em mais de 2000 kms por, você se imagina embora quando eu disser a ele pelo telefone " Oi, é Art Sullivan ", ele não acreditou em mim! Especialmente que por cima lá, em Portugal, apesar de meus anos de ausência, eu permaneci uma estrela grande. Ele realmente acreditou além disso em uma piada, nós fomos um 1 (o Dia de Bobos) de abril! Mas eu disse a ele que o próximo dia, alquilaría el estudio ICP aquí en Bruselas y que en una decena de días estaría aquí en para de Bruselas hacer una prueba en estudio... Le envié billetes aéreos para él y sus padres, era todavía joven en la época. Así como tuviera franco-portugués, tiene todavía bastantes amigos en Francia, y creyó que eran los que le hacían una mala broma... Ele admitiu depois a mim que quando eu desligar o telefone, ele foi ver vídeos de mim em internet ver se o selo de voz correspondesse ao que tinha ouvido no telefone! (risada) Quando ele receber ingressos planos, ele começou a acreditar nisto um pequeno! Mas como ele é cadáver assustado do avião, ele foi de Portugal para a Bélgica através de ônibus! Ele chegou a Bruxelas e aquela mesma noite, nós fizemos um teste para o estúdio. Como Senhor Verdonck conhece muito bem as pessoas da televisao portuguesa, ele os contatou e eles vieram filmar o Hugo que mesma noite. Ele nunca tinha visto um estúdio da vida dele e a primeira vez que ele entra em estúdio, o português noticias de televisao está lá e passa que mesma noite na antena! A mãe dela e a família dela que tinham ficado por cima lá não quiseram dizer vendo o filho deles lá no noticias de televisao... Assim, com esta passagem no noticias de televisao, toda a imprensa quis saber mais sobre isto neste conto de fadas. Todos os programas de televisão o querem e toda a imprensa o quer... E partiu assim.

E durante este primeiro em entrar em Bruxelas, quantas canções ele registra assim? Ele registra duas canções que eu tinha lhe escrito. Depois, como o teste é decisivo, nós decidimos registrar um álbum. Um álbum dirigiu no princípio ao mercado português. Ele devolveu dois meses depois e nós registramos este álbum no qual entrou fora 2009. E em Portugal que muito bem caminhou.

E agora, você vai bater o mercado francês? Completamente. Mas para a França, nós vamos registrar um álbum tudo em francês.

É a coisa de loucos esta história... Você pode dizer isto! Na realidade, ele não procurou nenhuma companhia de registro. Ele há pouco cantou puramente em internet para o prazer dele. Era sua paixão para cantar, mas ele não pretendeu se tornar um cantor. Ele cantou para os amigos dele. Os pais dele fizeram nem mesmo sabe que ele pôs os vídeos dele em internet.

E assim, você leva um pouco de prazer para compor para ele? Sim. Muitos. O que tinha me golpeado assim que eu o ouvisse, era seu modo para interpretar canções. Ele não canta como eu, mas eu entendi imediatamente que o que eu compus pudesse ir com a voz dele. Eu achei assim nele um intérprete formidável. Musicalmente, eu totalmente me encontro nele. Além, nós temos os mesmos gostos musicais...

Há uma alquimia bonita entre você dois. Realmente. Eu o compus todas as canções do álbum dele. Seguro, naturalmente a reassunção dos "Marionnettes" de Christophe e que de "Avec le temps" de Léo Ferré. É ele que teve a idéia além disso, desta reassunção de Ferré. Ele interpreta de um modo incrível. Também há uma canção escrita por Charles Blackwell. Esta canção foi escrita em inglês. E surpresa grande enquanto ele não falar o inglês, ele canta muito bem também em inglês! Assim, esta criança tem uma carreira bonita em frente a ele...

Você também registrou um dueto e escreve uma canção para artista francês jovem, Cyril Alexis. Efetivamente. Mas a história é bastante diferente. Um dia, Cyril me escreveu uma carta de duas páginas que enormemente me adquiriram. O sonho dele era que eu lhe escrevo uma canção. Eu era escutar um pequeno o que ele fez em internet. E eu lhe escrevi uma canção... Eu às vezes achei o selo daquele Cyril ficou mais íntimo minar. Mas não é a mesma estrada como com Hugo. Não está no mesmo contexto. Cyril veio procurar me e Hugo, eu fui buscar isto. Muitas pessoas me pedem canções, eu recuso freqüentemente, mas para Cyril concordei eu porque eu gostei o que fez.

Como você acha a reassunção dele de "Donne donne moi"? Ela é querida.

Nós somos mesmos longe de sua versão! Você sabe, nós não pudemos nenhum rerelease a versão hoje que eu registrei nos anos setenta! É uma versão bonita com sua cor para ele. Eu tenho dificuldade que julga quando nós fizermos ocasiões de minhas canções. Porque em minha cabeça, eu tenho sempre minha versão que arrasta! Não que minha versão é melhor, de nenhuma maneira, mas nos deixou dizermos que eu estou lá mais usado. Ano que vem, você celebra seus 40 anos de carreira assim. Que surpresas reserva você nos? Eu também celebrarei meus 60 anos! (risada) Também haverá uma compilação. Com certamente um ou dois pedaços inéditos. Para o resto que tem que permanecer uma surpresa... Assim, você saberá sobre isto mais próximo ano! (risada)

O que olham você interessa a evolução de seu trabalho? Eu realmente acredito que as pessoas jovens que começam hoje têm o mesmo coração e a mesma paixão como nós pelo tempo. É como o amor que não move. As pessoas jovens se puseram uma concha hoje. Eles não querem cantar mais nenhum canções macias abertamente. Eles querem coisas mais metálicas, mais elétricas... Como para o trabalho, haveria dizer tanto... Tudo assim evoluiu!

Isso o agrada hoje devolver na frente da cena? Naturalmente. E no fundo, o fato de ser parado a mim alguns anos era certamente benéfico. Porque eu não mantive uma imagem negativa no trabalho a imagem do cantor pequeno com gatinhos. Assim, esta parada era benéfica...

Você sempre compôs muito em sua vida, mas bastante pequeno escreveu de fato. Por que? Eu escrevo mais hoje. Mas eu nunca fui atraído realmente pela escritura. Por outro lado quando eu compuser uma melodia, eu sempre dou a oração fundamental que vai devolver na melodia... Mas para refinar o texto, não é realmente minha xícara de chá, não é a real paixão.

Finalmente, eu vou lhe dar algumas palavras, você vai dizer a mim o que eles o evocam instintivamente.

Ensemble : meu primeiro disco. O primeiro quem eu ouvi ao rádio.

Isso o trouxe o que o ouvir ao rádio? Não muito, na realidade. (risada)

Você foi saparado bastante do trabalho todos o mesmo. Separado não é o termo exato... Você sabe quando o padeiro fizer o pão dele e quando ele for o vender, nós não reduzimos o champanha! Eu fiz meu trabalho, é tudo...

E quando você segurou seu primeiro disco em mãos que o trouxeram isso que? Lá, eu estava muito satisfeito. Qualquer hora, eu tinha me tornado como o Christophe e Hervé Vilard! Eu era como meus ídolos, eu tive meu disco. É um momento muito grande. Provavelmente é o real momento grande de minha carreira …

Lágrima : um sentimento, se ele é feliz ou infeliz.

Outono : depressão.

A senhora Jovem : menina.

Portugal : o país onde eu irei por toda a eternidade.

Oceano : Portugal.

Tudo : não possível.

Hugo : conto de fadas

Dar : a coisa mais bonita...

Art Sullivan receives us in his office, in its house of the Brussels suburb. Jacques Verdonck, his producer, is present too. During this interview, we shall return with Art on its route. He will also explain to us why he left the front of the scene at the end of the 70's. Today, Art Sullivan is an enormous star in Portugal where it fills rooms equivalent to our Zénith... He will also explain us the very favorite which he had for a young french-portuguese singer. His name is Hugo, hold his first name! Art Sullivan will celebrate next year its 40 years of career, but also its 60 years! Meeting with a beautiful and intelligent artist;-)

IdolesMag: you go to celebrate your 40 years of career next year. If you please(do not mind), we are going to redraw these 40 years in main lines before speaking about your current events...

Were you what we call a baby singer? Art Sullivan: I really had the passion to sing towards 12/13 years old. To give you an example, I composed in this time " Petite fille aux yeux bleus ". She wasn't called still like that, but I remember although I had composed the melody in my bed. I had a small transistor and I listened to the music in my bed under covers... At the bottom of myself, I knew that I would be a singer one day.

You composed on a guitar or a piano? Neither of them! (laughter) to say to you the truth, I know no note of music theory. I have no music group. But the composition, you know, at the bottom, it's in the head... Thus, as soon as I had a melody in my mind, I recorded it not to lose it. And today, it's still like that! Later, I give this melody to a friend who transcribes it to me in musical notes. I am a composer, but I don't play an instrument. Finally yes! If you want that I play you "Frère Jacques" on a piano, I shall arrive certainly, but you won't should ask to me for it much more! (laughter)

And in your family, we sang? In no way. I come from aristocrats' family, as we say. Thus, towards 14/15 years old, when I said to my parents that I wanted to become a singer, it was not really of their taste! In the family, it was necessary to become a solicitor or a doctor. But singer you imagine! Except maybe my mother, who was a little more revolutionary. Her, she wanted that I made what would make my happiness. I had no circle of acquaintances which predisposed me to go towards the music.

Had you idols when you were child? Ah yes! I was very fan of France Gall and its" Sacré Charlemagne "! And then, my real catch for the music, it was in 1965. I heard an evening to the radio "Aline" of Christophe". There, I was little as a priest who would have heard the voice of God to come to speak to him. By listening to this song, I drowned myself in the music.

Remember first times when you sang, maybe not professionally, but seriously, let us shall say ourselves. At 15 years. I participated at little competitions, radio-hooks, fancy-fair. I sang "Aline", " Capri,c'est fini", " La plage aux romantiques ", things like that.

Then, what happens? You know, to want to become a singer and to be a singer, there are kilometers. But, as I was fascinated by Christophe, I went to see him in 67 or 68. As he had no fan-club, I suggested him going up his. He agreed. Thus I began to print a stencyled magazine which went out every month. At first, I had 35 members. But I persuaded Christophe that I had more than 2000 of it! (roars of laughter) It wasn't by snobbery, but as it was my idol, I wanted that everything is perfect and I wanted whether it's "big"! And I remember very well in the time when Hervé Vilard, who also had a fan-club, was very surprised that Christophe has so many members! Thus he contacted me and wanted that I also take care of his... I had 18 years old in the time, I was full of energy! In the time, it was Jacques Verdonck [Editor's note: which was present during our interview] who was the editor of Hervé Vilard. And a day, Hervé Vilard, who knew that I liked singing and composing, comes to Brussels to record a TV program. And he presents the " small young " to Jacques. He told me to send him a cassette and that he wouldn't miss to listen to hit... How we always say in fact! Thus I sent him a cassette and he called me back! On February 14th (I shall always remember it), I arrived in studio. And at the end of around thirty seconds, they said to me "Stop". I said to myself that it was done... But not, he said to me that he signed me for three years!

What that made you? Very sincerely, over the moment, not much! (laughter) We weren't in a star system, but I was very satisfied.

And later, you leave to London... Yes, 15 days later, we leave for London and we find Charles Blackwell, the arranger of Tom Jones, among others. It's him too who made "Love me, Please love me" of Polnareff. We record a model. We bring in of London a few days later, and the model is sent to two or three persons in Paris. After 24 hours, Carrère phones by saying that he wanted to sign me for 7 years. And in this time I hadn't taken out of record yet. (laughter)

It was another time!... Effectively (roar of laughter)

How did you choose your pseudonym? My real name, it's Marc Liénard van Lindt de Jeude... It was complicated enough to impose this name! Personally, I wanted to be called "Sebastian", don'tt ask me why! Carrère, him, had proposed me "Art" as first name. I had never heard first name like that in Europe. There was indeed Art Garfunkel, but it wasn't a common first name. In the time, Gilbert O' Sullivan had just takenout a record. I liked this name " Sullivan ". Thus, and so was born "Art Sullivan"...

At this moment, you take out your first record... Completely. "Ensemble » went out in June. The title bludgeined in July and in August by RTL. And at the end of August, sales were catastrophic. Everybody said it to me: with a bludgeoning as we had had it was very badly left. Then, in September, as by miracle, it was 10 or 15 000 sold recordsa day!

You live it how? Everything arrived so fast...Unconsciously. To give you an example... A few months later, I get royalties. I had sold all the same more than 300 000 records. I shall always remember, I was placefrom Brouckère to Brussels and I looked at a beautiful chain in a shop window. I found it magnificent. It cost 25 000 Belgian francs of this time... And it's there that I understood that I had them on my bank account. It's there that I realized that I exercised a job and that I was paid for...

You always lived outside the system in fact. Completely.

Tubes are very quickly linked. Did you have time to continue to compose? To tell the truth, I had a train beforehand. I had already quite a lot of already composed and registered songs. When "Ensemble")went out, the title" Adieu sois heureuse " which will go out on one year later was already ecorded. I'm not going to learn you by saying to you that in the time we took out one 45 turns every 4 or 5 months. Thus, us, in production, we had at least a good year beforehand.

You didn't certainly have time to record a lot in the time. If yes... You know, I'm someone rather discreet. I didn't like showing myself in the fashionable discotheques which " the all Paris " frequented... I went to Paris to make my work, and as soon as it was ended, I returned to Brussels to my mother's home, with my brothers and my dogs...

You always lived in Brussels, then? Yes, always. Not in this house, but I lived in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre during 35 years... I have never lived in Paris. Carrère wanted that I show little myself, that I play the star... But, that, that interested me in no way.

We return always to the same thing... All the side "glitter" and star system has never interested you.In no way!

In the time , you turn a lot? Very good question... In the time, I sell records"like little breads". The " Petite fille au yeux bleus" arrive at 700 000 copies, "Adieu sois heureuse" in 600 000, "Vivre d'amour" in 600 000 also. Every time, I make only a TV program or two, at the very most... I appear a little bit in the press. But records are very well sold. And as I'm a composer, I make a very good living... And thus, I wanted to make rounds. Carrère wasn't completely for! (laughter) He asks me to wait, finding that it was too early. But as I have enough income, I don't grow to the load. Besides, he had given me an argument which defended itself: I had two or three successes, thus, not of which like on a scene during 1 hour 30. Thus, I didn't turn a long time. Then, as one goes along, I felt that I needed the scene. You know, I had no contact with anybody in the time. I continued to frequent my friends the district and my family, quite as before. Thus, I wanted to make official receptions...

There are good memories, these first official receptions? There are the best! It's there that I understood my job. The real job of the singer, it's to be on stage. I also like the studio, because we create there. But we create in front of a microphone. It's little like when we sing to the television, we sing in front of a camera. When we are on stage, I cannot explain it to you, but we feel the feelings which pass. They are two facets of the job. They are complementary.

In 1978, you put a brake in your career in France. Why? I don't put a brake, in fact... I stop! It's the period that the Disco began to arrive. In the media, there was a shape of elitism. We heard say that "Je t'aime mon amour pour toujours ", it was old-fashioned. Caution, it wasn't the public who said it, we heard it in the spheres of the media... Even Claude François began to be taxed by old-fashioned. Even if I had sung the more intellectual songs, I had the seal of" stupid singer "... I felt it. I was 28 years old, I said to myself that I had no more this fire or this passion to sing. I wanted to pass to other thing. Thus I stopped and we didn't hear any more about me. I made all the same a disco song, but the goldfish was not good any more in its jar.

You begin then a career in the documentary. Why this choice? I was always fascinated by the documentary. We are in 78/79, the television wasn't the same that today. I smelt that the television was going to move. And thus, I created a concept: make invisible cameras with stars. I knew that that was going to cost a lot of money, thus, we visited co-producers. We saw some, of which one in Canada which hurried to develop the idea!...

It's that the idea was good...You made many documentaries on the royal families. Yes, a lot. I didn't realize documentaries for France or Belgium. A documentary, it's little as a song... A song is going to cost, for example, 10 000 euros. But that it takes out only in Belgium or all over the world, it will always cost 10 000 euros. Thus, so much make it for the largest number of people. It's the same thing for a documentary. As I knew that even the republicans were interested in the royal families, I realized quite a lot of documentaries on them. But I also realized reports on big cities, in particular one on Sydney, a little bit before olympics. Sydney, it's a fabulous city. When you realize that two hundred years ago, there was nothing...

The music didn't miss to you during all these years? To tell the truth, I wasn't so remote from the music because it's me which signed all the credits or the background music. I didn't sing, but I stayed in my musical universe. I didn't any more want to sing when I stopped, but the music stayed my passion. I have never stopped composing.

Why not to have written for the others then? I made it, but little. I wrote a song for Liliane Saint-Pierre, a Flemish singer [Editor's note: " Als je gaat "] and for Timothy also [Editor's note: "C'est la vie, c'est joli"]. You know, I can admit it to you, I'm a big lazy person... Thus, I compose little, just when it's necessary! (laughter) On principle, we don't command the creation. I cannot say myself " Today, I'm going to compose a song ", no...

In 2006, "Tout est dans tout" benefited of one remix dance. It isn't necessarily the register in which we wait for you... (roars of laughter) And it's going to have there even worse! It was still nice dance... Because there, at the beginning of the year is going to go out a remix of "Tout est dans tout" very very remixed! (laughter) I was very surprised when these young parisians contacted me about this project. I ignored that I had fans so young and dynamic! They just asked me for the track with my voice. And they remixed it I have just received her it and I can say to you that it's very well! That changes... That moves!... It's a remix planned for the discotheques.

You like this kind of remix? To tell the truth, I don't like the discotheques! But I admit that their remix is very well made. I wouldn't be honest by saying to you that it's the music which touches me.

When and how was born the adventure of this album "Tout est dans tout"? At the end of the 90s, the CD arrived. And I had no available record in CD. Ariola came to find me to wonder the authorization to take out a compil of my former songs. I didn't think that that would work, and, I'm going to say to you the strict truth, I accepted essentially to have a CD of my own songs (laughter) Thus, they took out the compilation at first in Belgium. We sold 60 000 copies. Six months later, they took out a volume 2 which less sold, almost 30 000 all the same, but this one contained much fewer tubes. Further to this adventure, Warner France contacted me to take out a compilation in France. We sold 180 000 all the same. And there, I realized that full of people had remained faithful to the memory of my songs. We even asked me to produce me several times in show.

You doubted it, that the public had remained in you faithful? I thought that I was forgotten. Really. You know, I had stopped in 78/79, it had been 15 years since more nobody heard about me... It's a generation! But to return to the shows that I gave... The public naturally came to listen to my songs, and I realized that when I sang, I saw in the eyes that it was as if they opened a photo album. The song re-transposed them in their 16 years or their 18 years. I realized that songs were bound to memories. All this restored me envy to sing again and to remake a record...

You took back "Mourir ou vivre" on this album. Why? Because it's the song which I like very much. As I just explained it to you right now, towards my 14 / 15 years, I made quite a lot of radio-hooks by taking back Hervé Vilard or Christophe. I didn't want to take back " Capri, c'est fini", because the song is too much similar to Hervé. "Mourir ou vivre" also, but to a lesser extent. Thus I wanted to take back this song by changing the arrangements of it.

It's one song which you like profoundly? Ah yes...

There is also Christophe's song on this album... Yes. "J'ai remarché". Even there, I didn't want to take back a too much known song.

It was a way, say to me if I make a mistake, to loop the loop... You had left to Paris to base the fan-club of Christophe and then you occupy you of that of the Hervé Vilard. Then on this album, you take back them both... Here we are, that's right... And the loop is not completely looped! Because for two years, I produce a young Portuguese artist, whom we are going to throw in France next year.

It's Hugo. Completely. And on the album, there will be a take back of Christophe "Les marionnettes".

Before speaking about Hugo, I would like to speak a few about this enormous success that you have in Portugal today... As I explained it to you, I was very surprised to see that so many people still liked my songs here in Belgium and in France when we took out the compilation. But in Portugal, I still have also a great deal of success. I was a "star" in the 70s over there. I sang in stadiums of football. To give you an example, when I played Funchal on the island of Madeira, I made 100 000 persons in 3 evenings, while the island counts only 300 000 inhabitants. A third of the island had come to see me. But in 78 when I stopped everything, I stopped over there also. And at the end of the 90s, we rereleased a compilation over there, and it was golden record very quickly.

How do you explain this attachment which the public Portuguese carries you? If there was a receipt?!...

You weren't necessarily attached to this country previously. In no way. You know, it's a little as the love. When we fall in love, we don't know why. It's an alchemy which takes place and nobody can explain it.

You give many concerts over there. Yes, when we play over there, it's in rooms of 7 or 8000 places.

You live it good to fill perform rooms so big in Portugal and not here in Belgium or in France? Ah yes, very well... And then, you know, I'm less afraid a lot of playing in front of 7 or 8000 persons that in front of 300. When you are in front of 7000 persons, you are in front of an ocean. He can arrive nothing at you, except when you really sing as a potato! (laughter) But when you sing in front of 300 persons, it's very different! Everybody is much shier.

You sing today in the Portuguese a lot. Is it phonetically? I understand little, naturally, but I sing phonetically! I also sing in German and in Spanish...

Let us return to Hugo there, how did you discover him? In the 2000s, internet became more democratic and I listened to people taking back my songs on sites of videos... Sometimes it's rather bad, but that always pleases! (laughter) Then, one day a friend tells me to look at a young Portuguese who took back "Petite demoiselle". I look. I find that not bad. I look then at his other videos, he took back Brel, Ferré, etc.... And there, I said to myself that this kid had a crazy talent. Then I contacted him. Him who lives in more than 2000 km by, you imagine yourselves although when I said to him by the telephone " Hello, it's Art Sullivan ", he didn't believe in me! Especially that over there, in Portugal, in spite of my years of absences, I remained a big star. He really believed in a joke moreover, we were an April 1st(Fools's Day)! But I said to him that the next day, I would rent the studio ICP here in Brussels and that in about ten days it would be here in Brussels to make one test in studio... I sent him plane tickets for him and his parents, he was still young in this time. As he is French-Portuguese, he has some more of friends in France, and he believed that it was those who made him a bad joke... He admitted to me later that when I hung up the telephone, he went to view videos of me on internet to see if the stamp of voice corresponded to the one that it had heard on the phone! (laughter) When he received plane tickets, he began to believe in it a little! But how he's scared of the plane, he came from Portugal to Belgium by bus! He arrived to Brussels and the same evening, we made a test for the studio. As Mister Verdonck knows very well people of the Portuguese TV, he contacted them and they came to film Hugo that same evening. He had never seen a studio of his life, and the first time which he enters studio, the Portuguese TV news is there and it passes the same evening on the antenna! Her mother and her family which had stayed over there didn't mean seeing their son on TV news... Thus, with this passage in the TV news, all the press wanted to know more about it on this fairy tale. All the television programs want him and all the press wants him... And it left like that.

And thus, during this first come in Brussels, he records how many songs? He records two songs which I had written to him. Later, as the test was concluding, we decided to record an album. An album intended at first for the Portuguese market. He returned two months later and we recorded this album, which went out in 2009. And in Portugal, that very well worked.

And now, you go to attack the French market? Completely. But for France, we are going to record an album everything in French.

It's a crazy thing this story... You can say it! In fact, he didn't look for record company. He just sang on internet purely for his pleasure. It was his passion to sing, but he didn't intend to become a singer. He sang for his friends. His parents didn't even know that he put his videos on internet.

And thus, you take some pleasure to compose for him? Yes. Many. What had struck me as soon as I heard him, it was its way to interpret songs. He doesn't sing as me, but I understood at once that what I composed could go with his voice. Thus I found in him a formidable interpreter. Musically, I refind me totally in him. Besides, we have the same musical tastes...

There is a beautiful alchemy between you two. Really. I composed him all the songs of his album. Except, naturally the take out of Christophe "Les marionnettes" and "Avec le temps"of Léo Ferré. It's him who had the idea moreover, of this take out of Ferré. He interprets in a incredible way. There is also a song written by Charles Blackwell. This song was written in English. And big surprise while he doesn't speak English, hesings very well in English also! Thus, this boy has a beautiful career in front of him...

You also recorded a duet and writes a song for a young French artist, Cyril Alexis. Effectively. But the story is rather different. One day, Cyril wrote me a letter of two pages which enormously touched me. His dream was that I write him a song. I listened a little what he made on internet. And I wrote him a song... I found that Cyril's stamp sometimes got closer to mine. But it's not the same road as with Hugo. It's not in the same context. Cyril came to look for me and Hugo, I went to seek him. A lot of people asks me for songs, I often refuse, but for Cyril I accepted because I liked what it made.

How do you find his take out of "Donne donne moi"? It's cute.

We are very far from your version! You know, we couldn't rerelease the version today which I recorded in the 70s! It's a beautiful version with his color to him. I have difficulty judging when we make occasions of my songs. Because in my head, I always have my version which trails! Not that my version is better, in no way, but let us say that I'm more used there.

Next year, thus you celebrate your 40 years of career. What surprises do you reserve us? I shall also celebrate my 60 years!! (laughter) There will be also a compilation. With certainly one or two unpublished pieces. For the rest, that has to remain a surprise... Thus, you will know about it more next year! (laughter)

Which glance do you relate to the evolution of your job? I really believe that the young people who begin today have the same heart and the same passion as us in the time. It's as the love, that doesn't move. The young people put themselves a shell today. They don't openly want to sing any more soft songs. They want more metallic, more electric things... As for the job, there would be so much to say... Everything so evolved!

That pleases you today to return on the front of the scene? Naturally. And at the bottom, the fact that i being stopped some years was certainly beneficial. Because I didn't keep a negative image in the job, the image of the small singer with kittens. Thus, this stop was beneficial...

You always composed a lot in your life, but enough little wrote as a matter of fact. Why? I write more today. But I was never really enticed by the writing. On the other hand when I compose a melody, I always give the key sentence which is going to return in the tune... But to refine the text, it isn't really my cup of tea, it isn't my real passion.

Finally, I am going to give you some words, you go to say to me what they evoke you instinctively.

-Ensemble: my first record. The first one whom I heard to the radio.

What that made for you when you hear you to the radio? Not much, in fact. (laughter)

You were untied enough from the job all the same. Untied isn't the exact term... You know when the baker made his bread and when he's going to sell it, we don't cut down the champagne! I did my job, ithat's all...

And when you held your first record in hands, that made you what? There, I was very satisfied. Any time, I had become as Christophe and Hervé Vilard! I was as my idols, I had my record. It's a very big moment. It's probably the real big moment of my career...

Chegou hoje às lojas o disco com que Art Sullivan pretende homenagear Portugal.

Em 1978, Art Sullivan, de forma inesperada, decidiu colocar um ponto final na sua carreira de cantor para se dedicar ao audiovisual. No entanto, nunca deixou de compor músicas e de escrever textos.

Antes, em 1972, lançou "Ensemble", que avançou nos tops até se tornar num verdadeiro êxito, com mais de 500 mil exemplares do single vendidos só em França. Bélgica, Holanda e especialmente Portugal, foram locais onde alcançou grande sucesso. Entre 1972 e 1978, vendeu mais de 10 milhões de discos.

Em 1978, optou por criar uma empresa de produção audiovisual, que apostou na realização de documentários e programas educativos.

Agora, Art Sullivan decide homenagear um dos países que mais contribuiu para o seu sucesso, editando o álbum “35 Anos em Portugal”, que inclui, entre outros, o sucesso ‘Petite demoiselle’ e o tema "Dá-lhe um pouco" (dueto com Hugo), uma versão do êxito "Donne Donne-Moi".

En 1978, Art Sullivan, d'une façon inattendue, décidait de mettre un point final à sa carrière de chanteur pour se consacrer à l'audiovisuel. Cependant, il n'a jamais arrêté de composer de la musique et d'écrire des textes.

Avant, en 1972, il a lancé "Ensemble", qu'il a avancé dans les hits jusqu'à devenir un vrai succès, avec plus de 500 milles exemplaires de singles vendus seulement en France. La Belgique, la Hollande et particulièrement le Portugal, sont les endroits où il a eut le plus grand succès. Entre 1972 et 1978, il a vendu plus de 10 millions de disques.

Art Sullivan no "Fundamental Café"

O popular cantor belga da década de 70 esteve a almoçar no Fundamental Café a 25 de Março. Art Sullivan é protagonista de uma história fantástica, ao bom estilo do sonho americano, tendo por apadrinhado o jovem Hugo Sahki.

A história da ainda curta carreira de Hugo Sahki é digna de figurar brevemente no enredo de um filme que retrate mais um episódio do american dream, aqui adaptado a uma espécie de european dream, sediado em Portugal. O jovem Hugo vive com os pais na Póvoa de Varzim, depois de mais de dezasseis anos de vida passados em França. O único contacto que o simples Hugo tinha tido com a música resumia-se aos cd's que ouvia no quarto em casa dos pais ou na discoteca de que estes são proprietários. Assim como quem não quer a coisa, lá ia cantando às escondidas para a webcam, sempre bem fechado no quarto, não fosse os pais darem com ele nas cantorias, o que o faria corar de vergonha. Aproveitando a garantia de privacidade aliada à mega exposição que a internet pode proporcionar, Hugo Sahki carregou os seus videoclips caseiros no YouTube. Não demorou que a sua cover de Petit Demoiselle chegasse ao computador do próprio... Art Sullivan. Que de tal modo gostou do que ouviu que entrou em contacto via e-mail com o Hugo, que terá levado vários dias a acreditar na sorte que lhe tinha cabido em rifa. O popular cantor belga gostou de tal forma da voz e da interpretação de Hugo Sahki que lhe ofereceu bilhetes para ir à Bélgica gravar um disco, o que aconteceu no ICP Estudios em Bruxelas, um dos maiores do género na Europa. Como se a bondade de Sullivan já não fosse mais do que evidente, o conhecido artista ainda se dispôs a vir a Portugal e acompanhar Hugo Sahki numa "digressão" pelas rádios locais de todo o país, fazendo valer os créditos que alcançou em anos idos para abrir portas à sua descoberta. Tudo a expensas do próprio Art Sullivan e, pasme-se, sem outro interesse evidente que não o de ver Hugo Sahki no lugar onde Sullivan entende que a voz do jovem cantor merece que ela se situe. Le chanteur populaire belge des années 70 prenait son déjeuner au "Fundamental Café" le 25 mars 2009. Art Sullivan est le protagoniste d'une histoire fantastique, style rêve américain, il a parrainé le jeune Hugo Sahki.
L'histoire de la carrière débutante de Hugo Sahki serait digne de figurer dans un film qui retracerait un épisode de l' American Dream, ici adapté en une espèce de "European Dream" basé au Portugal. Le jeune Hugo Sahki vit avec ses parents à Povoa de Varzim, après 16 années de vie en France. Le seul contact qu' Hugo avait avec la musique se résumait aux CD qu'il écoutait dans sa chambre chez ses parents ou dans la discothèque dont ceux-ci sont propriétaires. Ainsi mine de rien, il chantait secrètement à la webcam, ses parents n'étaient pas là quand il chantait, ce qui l'aurait fait rougir de timidité. Le fait de profiter de la garantie de sa vie privée allié à une méga exposition qu' internet peut offrir, Hugo Sahki a donc téléchargé ses vidéos maison sur Youtube.
Il ne s'est pas mis longtemps pour que sa version de "Petite Demoiselle" n'arrive sur l'ordinateur de...Art Sullivan. Qui a tellement aimé ce qu'il a entendu, qu'il entre en contact avec Hugo par e-mail, qui aura mis plusieurs jours pour croire à la chance qui l'avait choisi. Le chanteur belge a aimé cette forme de voix et l'interprétation de Hugo Sahki qu'il lui a offert des billets pour aller enregistrer un disque en Belgique, qui est produit au studio ICP à Bruxelles, un des plus grand du genre en Europe. Comme si la bonté de Art Sullivan n'était pas plus qu' évidente, l'artiste est toujours disposé à venir au Portugal et à accompagner Hugo Sahki en "digression" pour les radios locales dans tout le pays, faisant valeur de crédits qui s'étendra dans les années à venir pour ouvrir les portes sur sa découverte.
Tout au dépend de Art Sullivan, étonné, sans d'autre intérêt évident que de voir Hugo à cette place où Art Sullivan comprend que la voix du jeune chanteur le mérite. Art et Hugo ont une relation ressemblant à celle entre un père et son fils-parfois il arrive qu'ils semblent être 2 frères- et le rêve américain s'est transformé, pour Hugo Sahki -en une occasion bien réelle.

Caractère exceptionnel. Art Sullivan est un homme de caractère exceptionnel et l'histoire d' Hugo Sahki ne laisse pas de doutes sur l'immensité de l'esprit du chanteur belge, rendu célèbre au Portugal avec des chansons comme "Petite Demoiselle", "Donnes,donnes-moi" ou "Vivre d'amour, besoin d'amour".
Son passage au Fundamental Café a fait comprendre que malgré les années passées Art est toujours dans la mémoire collective, il ne passera inaperçu pratiquement par aucun des clients du restaurant du Fundamental Café.

The Belgian singer of middle-of-the-road popular songs of the 70's had lunch in "Fundamental Café" on March 25th, 2009. Art Sullivan is the protagonist of a fantastic story, American dreams style, it sponsored the young Hugo Sahki.
The story of Hugo Sahki's novice career would deserve to appear in a film which would redraw an episode of American Dream, here adapted in a sort of "European Dream" based in Portugal. The young person Hugo Sahki lives with his parents to Povoa de Varzim, after 16 years of life in France. The only contact which Hugo had with the music amounted to the CD which he listened to in his bedroom at his parents or in the discotheque among which these are owners. So although it doesn't seem like it, he sang secretly to the webcam, his parents were not there when he sang, what would have made him be ashamed with shyness. The fact of taking advantage of the guarantee of its private life ally in a méga exposure which internet can offer, Hugo Sahki thus downloaded his videos on YouTube.

Art Sullivan veio a Portugal gravar um novo tema com Hugo Sahki. O artista belga confessa que esta encantado o nosso pais.

Conheceram-se ha dois anos no mondo cibernetico. Art Sullivan soube que um jovem portugues cantava tema seus no blogue pessoal e o interpreteu do famoso "Petite demoiselle" recorda que chorou quando o-ouviu pela primeira vez. Decidiu, de imediato, apostar na carreira de Hugo Sahki e gravar um album.

A vinda de Art Sullivan a Portugal foi, desta vez, para que Hugo grave uma nova versao do tema "Tenho medo"(J'ai mal), com guitarra portuguesa de José Pimentel. Isto porque conta o cantor belga, quer, com os seus "pequenos meios, fazer descobrir as pessoas que ha uma musica, uma lingua, uma cultura portuguesas que vale a pena descobrir", e "integrar o fado numa musica mais popular, menos elitistas".

Durante estes quase dois anos, o jovem de 20 anos, que vive na Povoa de Varzim, nao teve aulas nem de canto nem de solfejo porque, diz o seu mentor, quer que mantenha a sua naturalidade original. "E esse o meu objectivo, que continue o ser o Hugo. Ha pessoas que me dizem que devia ter aulas, mas eu acho, que este talento e inato, ha uma emoçao na voz dele", explica.

Continuam a trocar impressoes, essencialmente, via electronica o cantor escreve melodias e manda-lhe as maquetas Hugo escreve as letras. Ja a estreia do jovem em palco aconteceu este verao, na Povoa de Varzim, perante 7500 pessoas. Partilharam o palco e, segundo o cabeça-de-cartaz, esteve optimo "O publico gostou imenso de nos e o Hugo saiu-se muito bem. Percebi que mesmo em palco consegue criar uma simbiose com o publico."

Art Sullivan abriu uma excepçao para este jovem que considera um prodigio, ja que raremente faz espectaculos. Gostou tanto de ver os "olhares saudosistas" dos espectadores, que vai acompanhar Hugo numa pequena digressao no proximo ano. Ja tem 30 espectaculos agendados, em Portugal e nos paises francofonos. Hugo, que tremia de medo antes de subir ao palco, esta agora "impaciente". Hugo é uma excepçao na vida do musico, que nunca se tinha dedicado desta forma a lançar um novo talento. "Ele é uma motivaçao para mim, obriga-me a continuar a avançar", realça. Talvez se deva tambem aà paixao que ha muito alimenta por Portugal. Vem com bastante frequencia e adora o Pais, especialmente a zona de Cascais. "Sempre fui muito bem recebido, e sempre guardei memoria da extrema gentileza e simplicidade dos portugueses, sinto uma grande emoçao cada vez que ca venho. " Tanto, que quer que as suas cinzas sejam espalhadas por ca: "Ja organizei tudo para passar a minha eternidade em Portugal. Quero que as minhas cinzas sejam espalhadas na costa portuguesa, no oceano Atlantico", diz, realçando que "quanto mais tarde, melhor".

Ils se connaissent depuis deux ans dans le monde cybernétique. Art Sullivan a su que le jeune portugais chantait des titres sur son blog personnel et y interprétait la célèbre "Petite Demoiselle", il se rappelle qu'il a pleuré quand il l'a entendu pour la première fois. Il a décidé, immédiatement, de parier sur la carrière d' Hugo et d'enregistrer un album.

La venue de Art Sullivan au Portugal, est cette fois, pour que Hugo enregistre une nouvelle version du titre "Tenho medo" (J'ai mal), avec la guitare de fado de José Pimentel. C'est pourquoi le chanteur belge, qui compte avec "des petits moyens, faire découvrir aux gens cette musique, cette langue et cette culture portugaise qui valent la peine d'être découvertes" et "intégrer le fado dans une musique plus populaire, moins élitiste."

Pendant ces quasi deux ans, le jeune de 20 ans, qui vit à Povoa de Varzim, n'a eu ni leçons de chant, ni de solfège, dit son mentor, pour maintenir son naturel original. "Et c'est mon objectif, qu'il continue à être Hugo. Il y' a des gens qui me disent qu'il devrait prendre des leçons, mais moi je trouve, que son talent est inné, cette émotion dans sa voix", explique-t-il.

Ils continuent à échanger leurs impressions, essentiellement, via l'électronique, le chanteur écrit les mélodies et lui envoye les maquettes, Hugo écrit les paroles. Déjà, la première scène du jeune, il s'est produit à Povoa de Varzim, devant 7500 personnes. Ils ont partagé la scène et d'après la tête d'affiche, il a été très bon. "Le public nous a énormément aimé et Hugo s'en est très bien sorti. Percevant, que même sur scène, il a réussit à créer une symbiose avec le public."

Art Sullivan a fait une exception pour ce jeune qu'il considère prodige, qui a rarement fait des spectacles.Il a tellement aimé cette façon de voir les "regards nostalgiques" des spectateurs, qu'il va accompagner Hugo, dans une petite digression, l'année prochaine. Il y' a déjà 30 spectacles à l'ordre du jour au Portugal et dans des pays francophones. Hugo, qui tremblait de peur avant de monter sur scène, est maintenant "impatient". Hugo est une exception dans la vie du musicien, qui ne s'est jamais consacré à cette façon de lancer un nouveau talent. "Il est une motivation pour moi, m'obligeant à continuer d'avancer" souligne-t-il. Peut-être aussi est-ce dû à la grande passion qu'il nourrit pour le Portugal. Il vient très fréquemment et il adore le pays, particulièrement la zone de Cascais. "J'ai toujours été très bien reçu et je garde toujours en mémoire l'extrême bonté et la simplicité des portugais, je sens une grande émotion à chaque fois que je viens ici'. Tant qu'il veut que ses cendres soient dispersées ici: "J'ai déjà tout organisé pour passer mon éternité au Portugal. Je veux que mes cendres soient dispersées dans la côte portugaise, dans l'océan Atlantique", dit-il, ajoutant "que le plus tard, sera le mieux".

Cantor belga volta a Portugal para produzir musica.

ART SULLIVAN grava no estudio de RUI VELOSO.

E habitual dizer-se que em equipa vencedora nao se mexe e parece que é isso mesmo que se passa entre Art Sullivan e Hugo Sahki.

Ha cerca de um ano o caminho do famoso cantor belga cruzou-se com o de Hugo, um jovem portugues que gravava, e divulgava no Youtube, imagens suas a cantar musicas de Sullivan. O autor de "Petite Demoiselle" viu, ouviu, gostou e dai a começarem a gravar juntos foi um apice.

Este ano, voltam a Portugal para gravar "J'ai mal/Tenho medo", nos estudios de Rui Veloso. A produçao do tema fica igualmente a cargo de Sullivan.

Le chanteur belge est de retour au Portugal pour produire de la musique.

ART SULLIVAN enregistre dans le studio de RUI VELOSO.

C'est habituel de se dire que dans une équipe le gagnant ne se déplace pas et c'est cela même qu'il se passe entre Art Sullivan et Hugo Sahki.

Il y' a environ un an, le chemin du célèbre chanteur a croisé celui d' Hugo, un jeune portugais qui s'enregistrait, et divulguait sur Youtube, des images où il chantait des musiques de Art Sullivan. L'auteur de "Petite Demoiselle" l'a vu, l'a entendu, a aimé et à partir de ce moment là, ils ont commencé à enregistrer ensemble.

Cette année, il retourne au Portugal pour enregistrer "J'ai mal/Tenho medo" aux studios de Rui Veloso. La production du sujet est également sous la responsabilité de Art Sullivan.

Parece um conto-de-fadas, mas é uma historia verdadeira.
Hugo é um jovem da Povoa de Varzim que viveu a maior parte da infancia em França, com a sua familia. Como outros jovem, sempre gostou de cantar no banho. Nos tempos livres, entretinha-se a colocar as suas cançoes no Youtube.

Até que um dia foi descoberto por Art Sullivan, que decidiu apadrinha-lo e que, desde ha um ano a esta parte, o transformou num sucesso de vendas em toda a Europa. Ao Correio da Manha, o cantor belga – que na década de 70 encantou Potugal com ' Petite Demoiselle' -conta o que viu no português.

"Surpreendeu-me que um jovem de 20 anos cantasse cançoes de gente como Brel e Léo Ferré... Nao é comum. Mas mais do que isso, percebi que estava ali um talento enorme, um talento que valia a pena mostrar ao Mundo", diz.

Um telefonema fez toda a diferença. Hugo confessa que, a principio, nem acreditou que a sorte lhe tinha batido à porta.

"O Art ligou-me a 1 de Abril, Dia das Mentiras, e eu pensei que se tratasse de uma brincadeira... Mas era mesmo a serio! Foi um sonho", diz ele, que acaba de lançar o seu primeiro album, "Secret Emotions", e apesar do titulo, faz questao de cantar em portugues. Numa coisa Art Sullivan insiste: Hugo nao vai ter aulas de Musica. A sua vocaçao é espontanea. "Nao ha tecnica nenhuma que ensine o essencial. E o essencial é o talento", conclui.

Cela ressemble à un conte de fées, mais c'est une histoire vraie.
Hugo est un jeune de Povoa de Varzim qui a vécu la majeure partie de son enfance en France, avec sa famille. Comme tout les jeunes, il aimait toujours chanter dans le bain. Pendant son temps libre, il s'est bien amusé à mettre ses chansons sur Youtube.

Jusqu'à ce qu'un jour Art Sullivan l'a découvert, qu'il se décidé à le parrainer et que, est de là, il y'a un an la cette époque, il l'a transformé en succès des ventes dans toute l'Europe. Au Correio da Manha, le chanteur belge – qui dans la décennie 70 a enchanté le Portugal avec "Petite Demoiselle" - compte sur ce qu'il a vu dans ce portugais.

"Ca m'a étonné qu'un jeune de 20 ans chante des chansons des gens comme Brel et Léo Ferré... Ce n'est pas commun. Mais plus que ça, j'ai ressenti qu'il y' avait là un énorme talent, un talent qui valait la peine d'être montrer au Monde", dit-il.

Un appel téléphonique a fait toute la différence. Hugo admet que, qu'en principe, il ne croit pas que la chance viendrait frapper à sa porte.

"Art m'a appelé le 1 avril, le Jour du Mensonge et j'ai pensé que s'il s'agissait d'une blague... Mais c'était vraiment comme un feuilleton! C'était un rêve", dit-il, qui vient de lancer son premier album, "Secrets Emotions" et malgré le titre, il est question de chanter en portugais. Une chose sur laquelle Art Sullivan insiste : Hugo n'aura pas les de leçons de Musique. Sa vocation est spontanée. "Personne n'a aucune technique qui enseigne l'essentiel. Et l'essentiel est le talent ", conclut-il.

To the Correio da Manha, the Belgian singer - who in the decade 70 enchanted Portugal with "Petite demoiselle" - counts on what he saw in this Portuguese.

"That amazed me that a 20-year-old young person sings songs of people as Brel and Léo Ferré... It is not common. But more than that, I felt that he had an enormous talent, a talent there which was worth being to show in the World", he says.

A phone call made all the difference. Hugo admits that, that as a rule, he doesn't believe that the luck would come to knock in its door.

"Art called me on April 1st, the day of the Lie and I thought that if it was about a joke... But it was really as a serial! It was a dream ", he says, who has just thrown his first album, "Secrets Emotions" and in spite of the title, it's question to sing in Portuguese. A thing on which Art Sullivan insists: Hugo will have no music lessons. His vocation is spontaneous. "Nobody has any technique which teaches the main part. And the main part is the talent", he concludes.

Cantor belga conheceu jovem português na Internet e produziu para ele o seu primeiro disco. Para o ano vão fazer vários concertos pelo País.

Foi em 2008 que Hugo Sahki colocou na Internet alguns vídeos a cantar Petite Demoiselle, o tema de maior sucesso do belga Art Sullivan. Os cantores acabaram por se conhecer e Art Sullivan produz o primeiro álbum deste jovem português de 20 anos, natural de Póvoa de Varzim. Para o ano a dupla vai encetar uma digressão com várias datas por Portugal, mas também por países como França, Luxemburgo e Suíça.

"Começou tudo como uma brincadeira e a primeira vez que ele falou comigo quase que não acreditei", disse Hugo Sahki ao DN. Art Sullivan, que não mostrava temas seus originais ao público há largos anos, definiu que esta nova experiência em compor para uma outra voz que não a sua é "estranha", mas permite-lhe também "descobrir uma nova forma de escrever canções".

Foi a 31 de Dezembro de 1974 que o cantor belga esteve pela primeira vez em Portugal, como convidado de um programa da RTP 1. A partir daí tornou-se um músico bastante acarinhado pelo público português, tendo recordado ao DN "os sete concertos que dei no Pavilhão Desportivo Carlos Lopes, foi fantástico". Afastou-se da música nos anos 80, mas hoje diz que "não se deve olhar para o passado, para podermos viver o futuro".

Les chanteurs finissent par se connaître et Art Sullivan produit le premier album de ce jeune portugais de 20 ans, originaire de Povoa de Varzim. L'année prochaine, la paire va commencer une digression, avec plusieurs dates pour le Portugal, mais aussi pour des pays comme la France, le Luxembourg et la Suisse.

"Tout a commencé comme une blague et la première fois qu'il a parlé avec moi, je n y ai presque pas cru",dit Hugo Sahki à DN. Art Sullivan qui n'a pas montré de titres originaux au public durant des années, défini cette nouvelle expérience de composer pour une autre voix que la sienne n'est pas "étrange", mais ça lui permet aussi "de découvrir une nouvelle façon d'écrire des chansons".

C'était le 31 décembre 1974 que le chanteur belge était pour la première fois au Portugal, comme invité à un programme de la RTP1. A partir de là, il est devenu le musicien très apprécié des portugais, en ayant rappelé à DN " Les sept concerts que j'ai donné au Pavillon Sportif Carlos Lopes, étaient fantastiques". O ídolo belga dos anos 70, está a apadrinhar o jovem luso descendente Hugo Sahki, um talento que encontrou na internet. O Destak esteve à conversa com os dois cantores.

Porque deixou 25 anos de carreira de lado?
No fim dos anos 70 começou a surgir o estilo 'disco' e deixou-se de fazer músicas românticas, as que eu mais gostava. Foi por isso que parei. Para mim, as músicas têm que transmitir emoções.

Agora que voltou aos palcos com o Hugo, está a gostar de reviver essa sensação?
Sempre gostei dessa sensação. Se o artista sentir essa felicidade, ele transmite-a a todos. Estou a gostar de voltar a reviver estes momentos.

Como é voltar a andar em digressão [a apoiar o Hugo]?
É como um bom prato que não comemos há 20 anos e voltamos a degustá-lo depois de todo esse tempo. É reviver tudo o que já passou.

Tem novos projectos?
Os meus novos projectos são sobretudo a nível de espectáculos e a compor temas para o Hugo.

Como descobriu o Hugo?
Há dois anos o Hugo começou a cantar e a colocar temas num site da internet. Uma fã minha viu e escreveu no meu site que havia um jovem que andava a brincar com os meus temas e que não tinha gostado da versão da Petit Demoiselle. Fui ver os vários vídeos que o Hugo tinha colocado online e fiquei emocionado com a sua voz. Dois dias depois escrevi nesse site os meus contactos e o Hugo telefonou-me. No dia 1 de Abril foi a minha vez de lhe telefonar e de oferecer dois bilhetes de avião para vir ter comigo.

O que viu de diferente no Hugo?
Através dos vídeos consegui ver que este jovem era um artista.

Sente falta dos palcos?
Sim. Sou um grande fumador. E preciso tanto dos palcos como dos meus cigarros.

Pourquoi avez-vous laissez durant 25 ans votre carrière de côté?
A la fin des années 70, a surgi le style "disco" et j'ai arrêté de faire de la musique romantique, ce que je n'ai pas aimé. C'est pour cela que j'ai arrêté. Pour moi, la musique doit transmettre des émotions.

Maintenant que vous êtes retourné sur scène avec Hugo, avez-vous aimé, à nouveau, revivre cette sensation?
J'ai toujours aimé cette sensation. Si l'artiste ressent ce bonheur, il le transmet à tous. J'aime revivre à nouveau ces moments.

Vous retournez aussi, de nouveau, en tournée (pour soutenir Hugo)?
C'est comme un bon plat qu'on a pas mangé depuis 20 ans et on retourne le déguster après tout ce temps. Et vivre tout ce qui déjà passé.

Avez-vous de nouveaux projets?
Mes nouveaux projets sont surtout aux niveaux des spectacles et composer pour Hugo.

Comment avez-vous découvert Hugo?
Il y' a deux ans Hugo commençait à chanter et à mettre des titres sur internet. Une de mes fans l'a vu et à écrit sur mon site qu'il y' avait un jeune qui s'amusait à chanter sur une de mes chansons et je n'ai pas aimé la version de "Petite Demoiselle". J'ai été voir d'autres vidéos qu'Hugo avait mis en ligne et j'ai été ému par sa voix. Deux jours après, j'ai écrit sur ce site pour qu'il me contacte et Hugo m'a téléphoné. Le 1er avril s'était à mon tour de lui téléphoner et de lui offrir deux billets d'avion pour venir me voir.

Le manque de la scène se fait-il sentir?
Oui. Je suis un grand fumeur. Et précise que la scène me manque autant que mes cigarettes.

Why have you leave for 25 years your career aside?
At the end of the 70's, appeared the "disco" style and I stopped making some romantic music, what I did not like. It is for it that I stopped. For me, the music has to pass on feelings.

Now that you returned on stage with Hugo, did you like, again, relive this sensation?
I always liked this sensation. If the artist feels this happiness, he passes on it to all. I like reliving again these moments.

Have you new projects?
My new projects are especially for the levels of the shows and to compose for Hugo.

How did you discover Hugo?
It is two years old Hugo began to sing and to put titles on internet. One of my fans saw him and wrote on my site that it had a young person who enjoied singing on one of my songs and I did not love the version of " Petite demoiselle ". I was to see the other videos that Hugo had put on-line and I was moved by his voice. Two days later, I wrote on this site so that he contacts me and Hugo phoned me. The April 1st (Fools's Day) was in my tour to phone him and to offer him two plane tickets to come to see me.

Is the lack of the scene felt?
Yes. I am a big smoker. And precise that the scene misses me as much as my cigarettes.
